A Historic Mission House with Renovated Residential Spaces in Central Sweden for $279,000

Findla Missionshus offers a rare opportunity to live in a historic home while gradually shaping its most impressive space. Part of the former mission house has already been carefully renovated and is ready to move into, while the grand hall provides an exciting canvas for future ideas.

At the heart of the property is the striking former assembly hall, where a six-meter-high vaulted panel ceiling creates an extraordinary sense of volume.

Preserved original details retain the building’s historic character, while preparations for electricity, water and a stove make it possible to transform the room into a dramatic living area, spacious kitchen or welcoming gathering place.

The work can be completed at a comfortable pace, allowing the next owner to create something entirely personal.

The finished residential section spans two levels. A rustic renovated kitchen forms a warm and practical center for everyday life, accompanied by a bright living room and a charming glass veranda overlooking the surrounding countryside.

The home also includes two bedrooms and a generous bathroom with a bathtub and stove, with an additional toilet upstairs.

Outside, open fields stretch around the house, placing nature and wildlife at the center of daily life. Deer, foxes and even moose are regular visitors to the landscape beyond the windows.

The lush, thoughtfully planned garden includes perennial beds designed to change throughout the seasons, bringing new colors and textures from spring through autumn. Several fruit trees, an underground cellar and generous areas for relaxing and entertaining complete the grounds.

The wider setting is equally appealing. Winding country roads, open pastures and traditional red cottages give the area an idyllic rural atmosphere.

Hjälmaren is nearby, offering excellent possibilities for swimming and boating, while the scenic Hjälmare Canal becomes a lively waterway for tour boats, pleasure craft and canoes during the summer months.

Although Findla Missionshus feels wonderfully peaceful and secluded, it remains within comfortable commuting distance of several towns and cities. Arboga is about 15 minutes away, while Örebro and Västerås are each about 40 minutes away. Stockholm is just under two hours away.

The house is listed for sale at Svensk Fastighetsförmedling Kungsör.
